The Sustainable Ocean Fund (SOF) is a pioneering fund focussed on opportunities across the Blue Economy. SOF is making investments into businesses across the sustainable seafood, circular economy and conservation sectors. Through doing so, we will address pressing ocean health challenges and deliver strong returns for our investors.
Over the next several years, SOF will invest in both established businesses, where our hands-on project approach can support companies to rapidly and sustainably scale, as well as a selection of Series A type opportunities that we believe have the potential to be best practice models in their sector and deliver unique sustainable growth businesses. We are long-term investors focused on building social, environmental and economic value, and de risking investments through excellent financial, technical and ESG management.
SOF started investing in Q3 2018 and is seeking a Latin America and Caribbean Investment Officer to join its Management Team. This role is based in region with periodic travel to Europe.
Working as part of the SOF Fund Management Team, the Investment Officer will lead in identifying, engaging and developing investment opportunities across the region and undertake investment management, including overseeing the implementation of agreed business plans within portfolio companies.
Identifying, developing and screening investment opportunities against fund criteria. Largely this will include growth capital targets with some allocation to greenfield projects.
Initial modelling and structuring of deal terms to present to the Fund principals for discussion
Liaise with target investees to keep them abreast of and committed to the Fund investment process and managing transaction to close. This will include supporting commercial negotiation and the coordination of due diligence
Authoring investment documentation for presentation to the Fund’s decision bodies
Investment management, including project observation and reporting in Latin and Central America. This will include:
Directly observing and overseeing the delivery of business plans by investee project and companies
Ensure the timely provision of monthly, quarterly and annual financial and ESG reporting by investees. In turn, report back / present to the Fund Managers on a periodic (e.g. quarterly) basis.
Participating in project Boards as required by the Fund.
Essential skills & experience
Six+ years working successfully in a venture / growth investment role, or a corporate director role in region within the SME / Real Assets sectors. Experience in the food, recycling or energy sectors plus a strong deal track record is preferred.
A degree in finance, business or a related discipline, as well as excellent academics (MBA or Masters preferred).
Demonstrated experience in managing the implementation of growth and/or improvement projects across portfolio companies or corporates.
A strong and demonstrable network from which to source investment and co-investment opportunities.
A demonstrated ability to work with and influence senior commercial stakeholders in a wide range of contexts, as well as the ability to work with and understand the needs of end beneficiaries.
Strong organisational and process management skills.
Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish
