We currently have several funds under management – the Althelia Climate Fund (ACF), the Land Degradation Neutrality Fund (LDN) the Althelia Sustainable Ocean Fund (SOF), the Althelia Biodiversity Fund – Brazil.- and are in the process of launching other financing vehicles in the sustainable land use space.

Althelia Funds has recently been appointed Investment Advisor to the AGRI3 Fund. AGRI3 is a fund established in partnership by Rabobank and UNEP to scale up commercial finance to support large scale sustainable forestry and agriculture, whilst improving rural livelihoods.

AGRI3 is seeking an Agribusiness technical specialist to support the origination, structuring, due diligence and monitoring of transactions. AGRI3 is a global fund focused on a broad range of commodity types. The Agribusiness technical specialist is expected to support the investment team in making an assessment of feasibility and impact of production and commercial models being proposed by potential Agri3 investees.

This role would be based in London.  The positions involve travel to project sites.  MNC offers competitive salaries and great opportunities for people committed to achieving environmental and social change through private sector investment.

Job Description

  • Review of all potential transactions, providing expert input on the business models, production methods and feasibility of transactions being considered with commercial agribusiness clients
  • Support development of the investment strategy through conducting analysis in relevant sectors (e.g. cattle, soy.) and geographies that AGRI3 will be working in (e.g. Brazil, Indonesia)
  • Support the structuring of transactions including where relevant identifying technical assistance needs
  • Working with the E&S team to conduct due diligence, establish E&S management plans and conduct monitoring
  • Supporting the drafting of Investment memos to the Investment Committee and Fund Managers, and contract negotiations as needed

General

  • Supporting the design and development of the funds processes and methodologies
  • Where necessary identify and manage sector or geographical experts
  • Supporting all reporting to public and private investors Agri3
  • Maintaining relationships with commercial partners, public sector or private philanthropic partners as required
  • Frequent travel across Africa, Asia and Latin America

Candidate profile

Essential

  • Agricultural specialist with 5+ years’ experience working in commercial agriculture or related field
  • Preference for Latin American/South East Asian experience
  • Strong organisational and process management skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Master’s in agriculture or natural resource management or equivalent experience
  • Proven ability to work remotely
  • Must have the right to live and work in the UK or EU.

Desirable

  • Experience working with commodity certification programmes with large agribusiness clients or a related field
  • Experience with integration of rural livelihoods into commercial agriculture supply chains
  • Experience working in development finance/commercial banking sector
  • Fluency in Spanish/Portuguese an advantage
  • Ability to undertake frequent travel
