Althelia Funds, the U.S Government and AIDER NGO sign ground breaking partnership for the development of 7 Amazon indigenous communities and operation of forest-based social businesses in Peru

April 30, 2019

Last week, Althelia, AIDER and USAID signed the Forest Alliance that will help seven indigenous communities of Ucayali to conserve and sustainably manage their forests.

The agreement was signed by the directors of a joint mission from the US Government (USAID) Mr. Lawrence Rubey, Althelia Funds Latam Director Mr. Juan Carlos Gonzalez-Aybar and Aider NGO founder Mr. Jaime Nalvarte. The aim is to encourage certified forest management and promote the development of 7 native communities in the Peruvian Amazon. The project will conserve 110,00 hectares of their forests, help preserve their cultural heritage, and mitigate global warming by preventing 4 million tons of CO2 equivalent from being released into the atmosphere. The co-financing structure triggers an initial investment of at least USD3.5 million from Althelia Funds’ investors, USD3.5 million from the U.S Government for a 5-year period, and it's only the beginning!
